I walk because I can.

I walk because I can.
I walk because I can.

.

I walk because I can. It's a small priviledge. One that many of us take for granted. Much like eating a banana, saying "Hello" and combing our hair.
I walk because I can. So many people with ALS cannot do the simplest things they enjoyed their entire lives. My aunt cannot eat or drink. She can't speak. She can't hold the telephone to hear my voice. She has trouble doing most everything. But she walks. Because she can. And boy, does she appreciate that luxury. It's a luxury she may lose one day but while she's got it, she's gonna use it!
Take the time to recognize all of the little things you do everyday. All of the muscles you use. You stick out your tounge. You wiggle your toes. You nod your head. You might even tap your foot to some music. ALS has a habit of depriving people the right to use their muscles. It's up to those of us who still have that right to make a difference.
I walk because I can. For those who can't.
