After celebrating my parents’ 50th wedding anniversary, in 2015 my family was devastated to learn that my brother, Darren Luquis, had been diagnosed with ALS, more commonly known as Lou Gehrig’s Disease. ALS has no treatment and no cure but we are fighting to change this. I am dedicating MY life to keeping my ONLY sibling’s spirits as high as I can in light of this diagnosis.
Every 90 minutes a person in this country is diagnosed with ALS and every 90 minutes another person will lose their battle against this disease. ALS occurs throughout the world with no racial, ethnic, or socioeconomic boundaries. This crippling disease can strike anyone. Presently there is no known cause of the disease though support is bringing researchers closer to an answer. In the meantime it costs an average of $200,000 a year to provide the care ALS patients need.
I need your love, support, and donations to help fight in my brother’s name. Please donate today and then join me on October 20th at the Walkway Over the Hudson for the Hudson Valley Walk to Defeat ALS. Our team, Darren’s Keepers, is dedicated to making a difference in the lives of people affected by this disease. I encourage you to get your friends, families, neighbors, and co-workers involved with us as we help put an end to this disease!
