TEAM HAILE RAISERS
Our dad, grandfather, husband, brother, son, uncle and friend Larry Haile, was diagnosed with ALS, more commonly known as Lou Gehrig's Disease, in January 2012, and lost his battle in September 2012. He fought courageously for 8 months even as his condition rapidly progressed. It was incredibly important to him that people learn more about this rare disease. This is why our family and our friends are fundraising and participating in the Walk to Defeat ALS (Team Name: HAILE RAISERS). Not only does this walk raise money to help find a cure, but also to support regional efforts to bring appropriate medical care closer to the homes of ALS patients. One of the many goals is to even bring a clinic here to the Poughkeepsie area. Therefore Hudson Valley patients will not have to travel the 90 miles to NYC or Albany to get care. So little is known about this disease so every little bit counts. If you didn't know Larry, that's okay, just know he always had a majestic mustache. SO DO IT FOR THE 'STACHE. Thanks!
WHY WE NEED YOUR HELP
Often referred to as Lou Gehrig's Disease, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a progressive, fatal neuromuscular disease that slowly robs the body of its ability to walk, speak, swallow and breathe. The life expectancy of an ALS patient averages 2 to 5 years from the time of diagnosis.
Every 90 minutes a person in this country is diagnosed with ALS and every 90 minutes another person will lose their battle against this disease. ALS occurs throughout the world with no racial, ethnic, or socioeconomic boundaries.
This crippling disease can strike anyone. Presently there is no known cause of the disease yet it still costs loved ones an average of $200,000 a year to provide the care ALS patients need. Help make a difference and donate or join a walk today.
