Greater New York Chapter

North Jersey Walk

Maddy's Mascots

Thank you so much for your support of Maddy's Mascots in the Walk to Defeat ALS over the past 8 years.  Every year we have been in the Saddle Brook Walk we have either been the highest grossing or second highest grossing walk team in the walk.  The money raised has gone a long way to fund research and to help those people currently living with ALS.  I am also very proud to be the Chairman of the Board of the Greater New York Chapter.  The Greater New York Chapter has been run so well that it received the highest rating (4 stars) for a charity year after year by Charity Navigator, the largest charity evaluation company.

As you may know, I got involved with the ALS Association over 8 years ago when my mother in law, Madelon Rand, was diagnosed with ALS.  My wife Emily's family was unfortunately very familiar with the disease, due to Emily's grandfather, Allan, dying in 1968 and Emily's aunt, Rochelle, dying in 2002, both from ALS (otherwise known as Lou Gehrig's disease).  We learned upon Madelon's diagnosis, that Emily's family carries the gene that leads to ALS.  So, my involvement in the Greater New York Chapter of the ALS Association became more about a race against time.  I am 100% committed to this war against ALS in the hope that we can find a cure for this disease before it claims the life of any more members of my family.

Please help me to raise money by donating to Maddy's Mascots, so that we can use the money to fund the cutting edge research that is necessary to find a cure.  Every year they have made amazing advances in the research of ALS, but as of today, there still remains no cure for the disease.  They are beginning to understand a lot about the disease and I am hopeful that with further research we are very close to a huge breakthrough.

Some Facts:

Often referred to as Lou Gehrig's Disease, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a progressive, fatal neuromuscular disease that slowly robs the body of its ability to walk, speak, swallow and breathe. The life expectancy of an ALS patient averages 2 to 5 years from the time of diagnosis.

Every 90 minutes a person in this country is diagnosed with ALS and every 90 minutes another person will lose their battle against this disease. ALS occurs throughout the world with no racial, ethnic, or socioeconomic boundaries.

This crippling disease can strike anyone. Presently there is no known cause of the disease though support is bringing researchers closer to an answer. In the mean time it costs an average of $200,000 a year to provide the care ALS patients need. Help make a difference and donate or join a walk today.

Thank you again for your support and I hope you are able to join Maddy's Mascots on Sunday, June 4, 2017 (registration is at 9:00am and the start is at 11:00am) for the walk in the Saddle River County Park in Saddle Brook, NJ, but if you are not able to join us, you can still be involved by donating to our team.  Every dollar counts and Emily, Jonathan, Noah, Max and I greatly appreciate any support you can provide.
