Please join me for a virtual Walk to Defeat ALS in NYC on Saturday, July 25, 2020. There will be a Facebook Live walk check-in at 10:30 am, and the walk will start at 11:00 am. I will be walking in memory of my mother, Marilynn, in my neighborhood in Brooklyn Heights. If you would like to join me and Monroe in a socially distanced walk in Brooklyn, please let me know and consider joining the team. Or you can walk with us wherever you are, or donate to the team to help raise funds to support those affected by ALS and to spread awareness of the urgency to find treatments and a cure. Thank you for helping us reach our fundraising goal! Please consider joining our team in the Walk to Defeat ALS® or choose a team member from the list and donate to our cause.
WHY WE NEED YOUR HELP
My mother was diagnosed with ALS in 2013 and lived with this terrible disease for almost five years. It robbed her first of her voice and ability to swallow, and eventually left her trapped in a body she could not move.
Imagine what it's like for someone living with ALS in the middle of this pandemic. As much as COVID-19 has affected everyone's lives, it is a nightmare for those living with ALS.
That’s why we’re participating in the Walk to Defeat ALS. To bring hope. To raise awareness. To rid this terrible disease from the face of the planet. And to provide resources and services to families free of charge.
ABOUT ALS
Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a progressive, fatal neuromuscular disease that slowly robs the body of its ability to walk, speak, swallow and breathe. The life expectancy of a person with ALS averages 2 to 5 years from the time of diagnosis.
ALS can strike anyone. Presently there is no known cause of the disease, yet it still costs loved ones an average of $250,000 a year to provide the care people living with ALS and their families need. Join the movement to provide help and hope today!
