This year marks the 6th Walk to Defeat ALS for Team Simply the Best. We continue to fight on behalf of those who can't and support the families devastated by this disease. Of course this years event will be different and there will not be a fun packed day at Forest Park. It won’t stop me from taking the day to honor my hero and all of those battling this horrific disease and their families. Join me, from wherever you are, by walking, running, biking or just remembering. I will be tackling my first ever Yeti Challenge. I will run 5 miles every 4 hours for a total of 30 miles starting at 10pm on June 19th. Join me for a loop around Highland or come by the house to cheer me on. In case you didn’t know... I RUN FOR THOSE WHO CAN’T.
Why We Need Your Help
Often referred to as Lou Gehrig's Disease, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a progressive, fatal neuromuscular disease that slowly robs the body of its ability to walk, speak, swallow and breathe. The life expectancy of an ALS patient averages 2 to 5 years from the time of diagnosis.
Every 90 minutes a person in this country is diagnosed with ALS and every 90 minutes another person will lose their battle against this disease. ALS occurs throughout the world with no racial, ethnic, or socioeconomic boundaries.
This crippling disease can strike anyone. Presently there is no known cause of the disease though support is bringing researchers closer to an answer. In the mean time it costs an average of $200,000 a year to provide the care ALS patients need. Help make a difference and donate or join a walk today.
