9th Annual LiveLoveLaugh Walk for Carol
Thank you once again for your support!
Back in October 2013 - one month after our dear friend Carol learned of her ALS - Clem, Andy, and Heather joined in their first Walk to Defeat ALS. In continuing to honoUr Carol's spirit of living, loving and laughing, we take this opportunity to celebrate her whole life's legacy while advocating for awareness and solutions.
Some highlights over the years:
2014: The walk coincided with Carol's birthday (and the birthday girl joined us!) and so began the tradition of donning crowns and having bubbles and brunch mid-walk.
2015: Joined by more friends, Anthony & Kelly and Tyler & Margaret, another tradition began -- since Carol and Travis couldn't be there, "lucky" Tyler was selected (read: lost an unrelated bet) and dressed to represent lovely Carol.
2017: Even more friends came with and we were delighted to be recognized by the Greater New York Chapter of the ALS Association for "Best Team Spirit"!
2019: Celebrating Tyler & Margaret's wedding in Ireland on the walk day, the bride and groom insisted on a photoshoot for all the walkers with the crowns in honor of the day and raising awareness.
And with continued positivity, this year we're hoping for your support for the ninth year. Although we'll be possibly walking virtually (again!) to ensure safety for all, please join us in spirit or simply send good thoughts as we pause to toast Carol and that we're one year closer to finding treatment if not a cure.
Why We Need Your Help
Often referred to as Lou Gehrig's Disease, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a progressive, fatal neuromuscular disease that slowly robs the body of its ability to walk, speak, swallow and breathe. The life expectancy of an ALS patient averages 2 to 5 years from the time of diagnosis.
Every 90 minutes a person in this country is diagnosed with ALS and every 90 minutes another person will lose their battle against this disease. ALS occurs throughout the world with no racial, ethnic, or socioeconomic boundaries.
This crippling disease can strike anyone. Presently there is no known cause of the disease yet it still costs loved ones an average of $200,000 a year to provide the care ALS patients need. Help make a difference and donate or join a walk today.
